Forum: movies Subject: Give us that old-time item checkout with ftp!

Recently three videos I tried to upload did not get stored correctly. The size of the uploaded video files was shown as zero. I tried to use the "edit item" link to replace the video files, but the web interface (both flash and by following the instructions for non-flash) was not able to upload the video file. Files were about 1GB or so, well under the 2GB limit for Firefox which is the browser I'm using.
When creating items, I always use the FTP option to upload the files. When editing items, there used to be a way to "checkout" the item and use FTP to replace files. However, when clicking on the "Checkout" button in the item manager, the web-based interface is brought up, rather than the page giving the instruction for FTP as used to be available.
It's good to have the web-based interface for those who wish to use it. However, based on my experience, it's not as reliable as the old FTP way of updating items. Please give us back that classic "item checkout" (which my grandfather used when he was a boy, ;-) ) that allows updating files using FTP. At least as an option, for those of us who wish to use it.
